Trail Journey @ Chai Chee
A project was done in collaboration between Temasek Polytechnic and the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF).
MSF hope to create a better space for the residents in Chai Chee to have a better environment surrounding them and make the residents feel comfortable. They also want to have a connection between the other 7 rental blocks with the Chai Chee community with the new proposed activities and functions.
This project is entirely depending on the site's background especially the history which is very rich in content. It is not known to the public as Chai Chee is a very small estate and it is combined with Bedok.
The historical context leads to my design statement and design concept to maintain and preserve its actual meaning of Chai Chee.
These are the issues and strategies identified during the site visit.
TrailJourney@Chai Chee was named after the 1st strategy where Bedok trail heritage walk to be integrated as one with community link.
The purpose is to gather more people - both residents and visitors to know about Chai Chee better
SPACE PLANNING
In order to have good circulation and connection between the existing community link to the other 7 rental blocks, bubble diagrams are used for space planning to ensure that it has the flow and each activity make sense according to its purpose.
Walkway shelter and rooftop walkway is the most important design to allow easy accessibility. I avoid using too many stairs and substitute for ramps instead.
